Chemo Cycle 1, Day 14

Generally feeling well; sleeping well, eating well, bodily functions OK. Body temp OK, weight OK, no fatigue. I make particular note of the fact that my dysphagia [difficulty swallowing] has considerably and noticably reduced. I must take that to be a good sign. Visited the Wikipedia website on esophageal cancer at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esophageal_cancer#_note-Enzinger which seems a very full overview.
I have been sharpening up my blogging skills and realize quickly that this is a medium that is being used by anybody to publicize whatever they want to whoever might be interested. Obviously there are many blogs like mine that are aimed at family and friends to record progress in some happy or sad event in their lives. The blog also undoubtedly serves the author as a record of events and allows for creative writing.
Yesterday I went back to the Zita Mary Clinic for them to check out bad blisters on the ball of both feet and a nasty red blotchy rash on my right big toe. Dermatitis, skin rashes, red pinpoints etc are all given as possible side effects of the chemo, which can especially attack the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands. I guess one of the unavoidable consequences of having cancer and having chemotherapy is that any symptoms you develop that overlap with known side effects might be due to the treatment, or they might not!! My blisters were dressed and otherwise it was considered OK to keep running with the chemo. I have had plenty of blisters in the past, they are uncomfortable for a day, then they clear up. I have also had dermatitis on the feet, which especially flares up in warm weather.

Hi, Impressive blogging site! Its interesting you are up on the technology before me! Perhaps i can take a photo in Melbourne of something, and upload it to your site also? Its a great diary format, and will be good to see it develop. That was an amazing story (+ photo) of your walking companion who had stomach cancer! Chat soon, Juliet xx

Hi Peter, sorry to hear that you are now suffering the side effects of chemo, I am sure they will ease, though you must be so uncomfortable. I wouldn't worry about your hair - in England it's all the rage to be bald, young guys here are shaving their heads, you could be trend setting in Evatt.
Your diary is very interesting and i'm sure will help a lot of people on Blog who are going through the same kind of teatment, with what to expect etc.
As you can see I have managed to get into the Blog, with lots of help from our guys here who sort out our systems. I feel very hi-tech at the moment, although having trouble accessing the photographs.
"Working on that one also"
Love, Brenda.
