As Winston Churchill said in momentous times, it may not be the beginning of the end , but it is the end of the beginning. So I have survived ECF chemotherapy, the pump cartridge has been removed and now I am into the phase [for the rest of my life] of making the most of the time I have and monitoring progress.
Psychologically it was a big moment when the pump came off on Wednesday. It was thanks and congratulations all round to the staff at Zita Mary Clinic, who have nursed me professionally and with compassion for these last 6 months. Life will be easier for me and Lynne from now on.
On Friday I went out for a short jog, the first in six months. I am going for a one hour walk each morning, and will start now to try and build up my strength and weight.
The biggest issue now is the pain and discomfort of swallowing food into my new stomach; if I make one mistake I have what feels like a golf ball stuck in my throat, and it is throw up or choke to death. On Tuesday I go in for gastroscopy with Dr Ashton, and he may be able to do some dilation at the same time. Follow up consultation with the surgeon will be in August and with the oncologist in November.
You will see I tried [successfully] to post a document to the blog from Google docs. This may be an easier way to set up documents for posting. I will try it out and see!!
Thank you all for your support thus far.
