Underway again

Today was a big day in the office at ZMC. Lynne and I got there for our 09h00 appointment with chemotherapy doctor Desmond Yip; he cleared the blood count results and gave me the green light to resume chemotherapy. So it was Cycle 2, Day 1. Port access was cleaned, flushed and dressed. New needle inserted and so began a new round of hydration, then administration of the epirubicin and the cisplatin. I felt rather light headed and had unpleasant stomach ache all day, which ended after 17h00 when Lynne & I left the clinic. It is good to feel that we are back on track; and I have come away with my new 7-day pump of 5-FU. Took the prescribed anti nausea tablets. Hair is starting to come out in good spiky tufts of silver. I am not going platinum blond, but rather platinum bald!!!
As usual there was great camaraderie and banter between all staff and patients; the latter regularly shower the former with gifts of chocolates and cake. Our 7 day heatwave has ended in Canberra, so there is the prospect of a better night of sleep!! I am hunkering down for the next three days, which can be the worst for chemo.
Visited a really cool Australian blog entitled 'Oesophageal cancer' at http://www.garpet1.blogspot.com/. The author has a black sense of humour which really appeals to me. I like his story [not comfortable reading at times], the commentary and the construction of the blog, which has been running nearly three years.
Tonight I got that anticipated call from Marion, a Cancer Council support volunteer who has survived stomach cancer for nearly 5 years. Tomorrow the community nurse comes. Its all go!!!!
