Battle scars
A candid shot of my abdominal zipper scar taken 16 Feb 2008. Out of view is the bigger chest access cut between right ribs from shoulder blade to below nipple. New stomach lies in right chest. Still plenty of fat around!!!

HI Peter!
My name is Jo. My husband is recovering from EC. He had the ivor lewis almost exactly a year ago. Slightly different from yours..his 'zip' went across his stomach. He was very lucky in that they caught it very early. He has lost alot of weight but is stable now. He didn't have to go through chemo or radiotherapy as they thought he would not benefit from it. He had one stretch afterwards because he was having some trouble swallowing due to the join tightening up but was fine after that. He is doing great now though and in fact we moved to Tenerife from Scotland so that he can be in the sun! Don't get much up in the wilds of Bonnie Scotland! You sound as if you doing brilliantly! Well done you! Email back if you like.

Hi Jo, thanks for your comment. There is no shortage of sunshine here in Canberra! There is a wonderful therapeutic value in the sun. Being Scottish, have you had any 'haggis' jokes in regard to the new stomach? One of the best papers on the surgery I have read was from a Dr Crofts at the Royal Edinburgh Infirmary. Best wishes to you both.
HI Peter!
Thanks for replying! No not heard any but i am sure there are amny many haggis jokes! lol. Yes Gerry feels much better in himself now we are out in the sunshine. We were under Ninewells hospital in Dundee and i can't praise them highly enough. Everyone there was fab. Ger's cancer was discovered when he had a routine endoscopy to see if he had an ulcer. They saw some abnomalities and the rest is history. They were really on the ball. I just wish he would put on a bit of weight but he is stable now so thats something. we are off back to the uk in a couple of weeks for a check up. Oh by the way he had a slight stroke two years ago and they think that he may have had another on the table during the op so we have the residual effects of that to cope with too! Ain't life grand! lol! Well we keep smiling!
