"From whence have you come?"

"From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it." Job: Ch2 v2
Reg Sewrey & I prior to our departure for the Cotter, where we went 'to & fro' and walked up & down.

So, on a cold, clear winter Wednesday, Reg & I again enjoyed a walk in the hills, this time behind the Cotter Dam, where there are plans to increase its capacity from 4GL to 20GL. As sequel to the 2003 bushfires and now the development plans, the country around the dam catchment is scarred and ravaged....but in line for a radical makeover!!
We encountered many tracks that have been bulldozed, ripped and planted with new seedlings. Others were stacked with massive felled burnt tree trunks and ramparts of earth and rocks a metre high. Our circuit was at least a 15km round trip from the Cotter Reserve. Maps & satellite images were OK, but we did need GPS to get through some tricky spots.

The 'highlight' of our walk was the fording of the ice cold Cotter River over slippery rocks in our bare feet near Brack's Hole. My Arab headscarf 'keffiyah' was then unceremoniously used as a towel to dry our feet. Then later I used it with great effect to shield from the biting wind.

beside the Cotter River. The logs are mature pine trunks burnt and killed by the 2003 fires. The sign at the top of the hill said 'Walking access only' !!! Even a 50 tonne tank would have had trouble driving along it!!

Oh, I nearly forgot, on the cancer front I have an appointment scheduled with the radiation specialist on Monday @ 1530 in The Canberra Hospital.
