Let the games begin_two out of three aint bad

Greetings all.
Today I signed up to join in the clinical trials of Everolimus for treatment of advanced gastric cancer. Everolimus is the active ingredient of the drug Afinitor. If I pass muster I will be recruited as a trial patient and start getting the drug [2/3 chance] or placebo[1/3 chance] very shortly. Quite a few preliminary tests need to be done to check that I am a suitable candidate and to measure where I am at to start with...more CT scans, blood samples, cardiograms, weight checks and questionnaires. Thereafter it will be fortnightly then monthly visits to the clinic at The Canberra Hospital for as long as the trial or I last. If the drug does me good then I will stay on it indefinitely.
Overall at home I have my bad stomach and good bowel moments...it sometimes feels as though they are in some kind of competition, one balances out the other. As usual I can eat anything...easy to eat too much, but it is what happens next that is the issue. Some food & nutrition must be getting through and I can see the first signs of clawing back some of the lost weight, though I am still rather a stick figure. On the other hand I am still plagued by fairly regular and quite distressing bouts of vomiting at night.
Despite these, I am feeling better and did a one hour walk this morning in the first of the Canberra frosts followed by magnificent autumn day. Last week Lynne ticked off the calendar, and after a run of four days free from vomiting she booked us to fly to Melbourne for three days over the weekend [Thursday to Sunday]. Guess what, I then vomited the night before we were due to fly and I was very off colour [ie ghostly pale white!!!] for the actual trip down. Nearly got bumped off the flight with Qantas.
Anyhow, we survived unscathed and entered into a dream world in Melbourne. Stayed in serviced apartments in St Kilda. Caught up with Jeremy, Claire & Finn and also Juliet and her current man Matt. Went to Finn's first birthday party in Jacoby Reserve, St Kilda, then to an auction where Jeremy was successful bidder on a delightful new home in Bentleigh East. We all celebrated with champagne with the vendor. Celebrated Mothers Day on Sunday. I had a test drive in Jeremy's new Hyundai i30 sports hatch.

Lynne firstly, then friends, family and neighbours have all extended their hearts & hands to help me, for which they have my undying [well I hope so] gratitude & and appreciation.
To be continued.
