Received the sad, but not unexpected, news of the passing of a long time neighbour Ryzard who has had kidney cancer for years. We have shared the sorrow and tears with his wife and will attend his funeral on Friday. His last days were at the Claire Holland Hospice on the shores of the lake. Ryzard was a very private person, but over the years I have paid him a number of social visits.
On a much happier note Lynne and I had lunch yesterday with Jenny at The Bookplate Restaurant at the National Library. Jenny is former work colleague of Lynne. She has been through the same cancer, the same chemotherapy and the same surgery as the one I have, right here in Canberra. It is a year since her surgery. There she was, fighting fit, leading a full and busy life, holding down a full time job and running a family....a great boost to my morale!!!
Today was my regular weekly visit to the oncology clinic. My blood counts were good and so treatment continues on schedule. A new pump of 5-FU was fitted. I have suffered from a stomach ache for a few days, dull and relentless. I have tried the slippery elm bark extract powder which I think is having a beneficial effect, so I will continue with it.
Other main complaint is unpleasant inflammation on the right foot; blotchy red patches near the right big toe and around the heel. Nurse and doctor looked at it today and prescribed pyridoxine 100mg tablets (1/day) and some paraffin cream to sooth it.
A blog of my encounter firstly with gastro oesophageal cancer and later with cancer at the pyloric end of the stomach. Blog started 13 October 2007.

Hi Peter, just read your blog of yesterday. Sad about Ryzard, but encouraging to hear Jenny's journey with gastric/o cancer. As you say,it will give you a morale boost to see her so active now. Vanessa tells me that Dave and Pat are visiting Canberra for a few days. No doubt you will catch up with them. Hope the kitchen is coming together smoothly. Will keep this short as its my first attempt at leaving "comment". Hopefully you will get it OK. Now to work out how to send it to you. Love Gina Hmm. looks like I just click "publish comment". No. it came up "your request could not be processed."
