Colon revealed

Before I put this post up I had to consider whether it should rightly be considered part of the cancer saga; but then I think it is the lot of all cancer patients to forever be concerned that any illness or symptoms they develop may be linked to the disease or its treatment. In this case the first symptoms [blood in stools] did indeed develop towards the end of my chemotherapy, along with a lot of pain. The pain has resolved itself, but the bleeding is still there on an intermittent basis. Hence the colonoscopy.

That was performed today at the gastrotrACT clinic [another ghastly play on the initials ACT of the Australian Capital Territory] at the Brindabella Specialist Centre,Garran. Lynne drove me over to Woden, usefully filled in a few hours, then drove me home as per doctors orders.
The scope was carried out by the familiar face of Dr Chris Ashton. As in the case of previous gastroscopy, the in house procedures at the clinic were as smooth and comfortable as could be. Anaesthetic knocks you out and there is no recollection after you are wheeled into the procedure room and greeted by the friendly nurses.
After I came to, Dr Ashton brought the good news and staff brought me tea and sandwiches. The word is that nothing sinister was found and that the sporadic bleeding that I have had is minor and not a health issue. It does not warrant any immediate intervention. It may clear up of its own accord; he recommended a high fibre diet...to which I am already a dedicated fan!
The preparation for the scope involved a restricted diet, then a liquid diet, then no food or drink, all washed down with some soluble powder preps which tasted like lemon cordial. They did their job and flushed out the digestive system.
So, my internal plumbing has been checked and Lynne & I are ready for our England holiday.

Keep your bowels open and enjoy life.
