Last Saturday 20 March 2010 I felt quite off colour; lethargic, slightly feverish and with reverberations rolling around in my head. Also had a 'turn' which sent my heart rate racing away. I was prepared to tough it out until at least Monday, but Lyndall and son Jeremy both persuaded me to head along to the Emergency Dept at Calvary Hospital.
Well I received royal treatment!! No delays, quick triage then a doctor visit. Had an X-ray done of the chest and CT of the head. Blood samples taken. temperature elevated. Put me on panadol & antibiotics. Overnight in ED bed sharing ward with drunks & drug users among others. Watching monitor was amazing, because at times my heart was showing atrial fibrillation and HB racing from a resting 70 to 140 bpm in the space of a minute!!!
Moved to Calvary Private Hospital [6th floor] on Sunday morning, under care of Dr Riddell. Had CT done of chest. Felt better quickly, temp back to normal. High infection markers [120] confirmed some sort of infection; this could explain lethargy and reverberations. Kept in for 'observation' until Wednesday. Markers falling. Blood sample taken from my port. Also had CT of abdomen; all body covered now!!!
Quite unable to pin anything as cause of reverbs. They could just be 'bellringers' to indicate infection.
Had a nice headache one night but a powdered Panadol helped settle that. Appetite & eating OK.
Results from CT remarked the shadow in liver area; will talk to Dr Pranavan next month to see if there is cause for concern. At least now I have been in hospital under observation to try and sort out reverbs, headaches. May now try alternative medicine. Will give away alcohol for a few months to see if that helps.
Came home on Wednesday pm and walked straight into a dose of reflux that night. Not severe, but very unpleasant. Today having a quiet day.
Normal resting Blood Pressure is 110/70
Pulse 60-70 bpm
