Message from wife Lynne
Yesterday afternoon 21 April Peter went to Calvary Private Hospital and Dr Thomson inserted a 2nd stent inside the original one he had inserted a week ago, in an effect to transfer food from the stomach into the duodenom. When he came round after the anaesthetic, Dr Thomson saw him, and advised light food and he had a tub of yogurt and a small orange juice before we came home at 7.00 pm. (Peter had had no food after a light breakfast). When we came home he had a small bowl of condensed chicken soup and a few mouthfuls of a strawberry and milk smoothie put thru the blender. At 8.30 everything he had consumed, (and maybe older food as well), came back. Tossing and wakeful he was vomitting again after midnight, this time dark red blood.
We drove to the Emergency Dept about 1.00 am, where there were just a few people waiting to be seen and waited an hour to be seen
this time by a pretty young lady Dr Thompson, (her Thompson has p in it, the surgeon's doesn't). Peter was moved into a bed, blood taken, blood pressure, temp, etc all checked out.
His surgeon Dr Thomson was notified about Peter's condition and he asked that Peter have nil by mouth today, and be moved to the Canberra Capital Private Hospital, where he would see Peter later today. At 4.30 today Peter was taken by ambulance and admitted to CCPH. Dr Thomson said that he wants to give the 2nd stent every opportunity to work and Peter must go back to fluids, and small amounts of light foods and be monitored as to how his system copes. This is just what Peter wanted himself. He walked 3 times around the 3rd floor after a very light meal of a few mouthfuls of mashed potato in his soup, apple juice and a few mouthfuls of tea. He has a good spacious room to himself at the end of a passage, with noone in the room next door. I left him feeling brighter and both of us hoping that he will have a much better night tonight. Many thanks for the emails support from family and friends, which we both appreciate so.
Meanwhile, bathroom renovations continue at our place and the new tiles look wonderful. The tilers will be grouting the walls tomorrow and their part will be finished. Next week the builder will be putting in the fittings.
Our grandson, Finn, took his first steps last week, just before the birthday he shares with our neice Vanessa on 2 May! We could see how very close he was when he visited recently, walking around the coffee table and pulling himself up on the furniture!
